SPAIN

In Mallorca, I was painting on anything I could find. I was in the middle of the island in 90-degree weather and not a house to be seen for miles. I drove up to a dilapidated old bullring. An old wooden ticket window was hanging off its hinge, so I pulled it off, said hello to a bunch of muddy pigs and threw it in the trunk. Forty-four paintings were made from May to October 1993; 18 were exhibited for Ferran Cano Gallery. Many of the works illustrate the use of found objects such as blankets, bed frames, doors and frying pans as painting surfaces, replacing traditional canvas.
